Maleberry,
Lyonia ligustrina, is the only species in the genus found in northeast Alabama.Another vernacular name of similar extraction
is he-huckleberry because it resembles blueberry and/or huckleberry plants since
it is in the same family, and often grows intermixed with them in moist areas,
but the fruit is a dry capsule rather than a juicy berry.
