Swamp titi, Cyrilla racemiflora L., is also known as he-huckleberry, but so is a species of Lyonia Nutt. that is in same order, but the is in the heath family, Ericaceae, along with huckleberries, Gaylussacia Kunth, and blueberries, Vaccinium L.  Titi is an evergreen shrub that is shade tolerant and a facultative wetland indicator species.  I have seen it in central Alabama growing on the Roberta Case Pine Hills Preserve that protects the endangered Alabama canebrake pitcher-plants, Sarracenia rubra Walter ssp. alabamensis (F.W. Case & R.B. Case) Schnell .  There is a smaller species of titi, C. parvifolia Raf., which is found in Florida and Georgia where it is called littleleaf titi or scrub titi.  The only other species in the family with titi is buckwheat-tree, Cliftonia monophylla (Lam.) Britton ex Sarg.  Both of these are also important honey plants along with several species of holly, Ilex L., that have a similar habitat and range.
