Sand heath, Ceratiola ericoides Michx., is a neat plant
that in Alabama
is restricted to the counties near the coast. It
bears a superficial resemblance to rosemary, Rosmarinusofficinalis L., resulting in the common name Florida-rosemary, but the evergreen leaves of the sand heath
are equal sized, perfectly 5 ranked, and not edible. Sand heath was among the many plants that were first collected by William Bartram who called it Empetrum
album, but a later discovery was published first. It may also be classified in the heath family, Ericaceae.
