Calamagrostis coarctata (Torr.) Eaton, Arctic Reedgrass
Calamagrostis cinnoides W. Bartram, nom. illeg.

Although the name giving by William Bartram is considered illegitimate it makes more sense than the common name Arctic reedgrass since this is the southern most species in the genus and only one found in Alabama.  Only three other species make it as far south in the east as Arkansas, Georgia and/or both Tennessee and North Carolina.  This species is an obligate wetland plant.
