Tar-flower, Bejaria racemosa Vent., is also called flyweed, Befaria racemosa Vent., orth. var., and it was initially collected by William Bartram under the name Kalmia spuria, but as is often the case he is not credited with the discovery due to complications related to the American Revaluation that delayed his publication of many descriptions.  Tarflower is native in coastal Georgia and peninsular Florida, but is only reported in Alabama and South Carolina.
