Grounsel-tree, Baccharis hamifolia L., originally had a coastal range but clearing of forest has allowed it to spread inland often along road sides or in pastures and I have found some growing on my property sometimes even coming up in flower pots. Another plant also in the sunflower family is Jesuit’s bark, Iva frutescens L., shares a similar habitat thus could they be confused do to both being three nerved, but Jesuit’s bark apparently has not spread as fast and as far, I seem to recall seeing it only as far north as Tuscaloosa although species diversity is inversely proportional to the distance from a major university. They are both idea for relatively wet areas especially if salt is a concern. They are described as deciduous but it seems more like they are tardily deciduous with bluish leaves especially on the females.
